Doomsday’s Hidden Trailer Clues Are Deciphered In Intriguing MCU Theory After Russo Brothers Tease

Once Marvel Studios completed Avengers: Doomsday‘s four trailer rollout, the Russo brothers delivered a surprising tease. In an Instagram post sharing the Black Panther and Fantastic Four Doomsday teaser, they said that the four pieces of marketing aren’t trailers but stories and clues about what’s coming.

With a final hint that we need to “pay attention”, fans have been left attempting to decipher the latest cryptic tease by the directors. It’s now believed that there are hidden clues about the film within the trailers, and an intriguing theory has started to gain traction.

Avengers: Doomsday’s Trailers Contain Time Codes To Avengers: Endgame Scenes According To Theory

Following the Russos’ post, there is an increased likelihood that the Doomsday trailer footage is altered in some way, either digitally removing spoilery elements or being shots created solely for marketing that won’t be in the movie. While some have focused on what is missing, another point of emphasis online has become the glitches in each trailer’s Doomsday clock.

Before the full countdown to the movie’s release date begins at the end of each teaser, a quick glitch occurs that is now theorized to be a secret code. The codes are 1e 24ber 02020 in the Steve Rogers trailer, 1e 17ber 02020 in Thor’s, 1e 11ber 02020 in the X-Men’s, and 1e 04ber 02020 in the final teaser.

There are many ideas about what these codes could mean, but as theorized by u/TheMaverickOne7 on Reddit, one of the most intriguing is that they are actually time codes for Avengers: Endgame scenes. According to the theory, “1e” in each represents 1 hour, the next part represents the minute, and the 02020 stands for 20 seconds.

Applying the time codes this theory generates to Endgame takes you to four interesting scenes. Steve’s code (1 hour, 24 minutes, 20 seconds) goes to The Ancient One telling Bruce Banner that “millions will suffer” when talking about the risk of creating branched timelines. Thor’s code (1 hour, 17 minutes, 20 seconds) goes to Loki disguised as Captain America saying, “On my way down to coordinate search and rescue.” The X-Men’s code (1 hour, 11 minutes, 20 seconds) takes you to Rocket asking Thor, “Are you crying?”, and the last code (1 hour, 4 minutes, 20 seconds) goes to Rocket telling Ant-Man, “You want to go to space puppy? I’ll take you to space.”

The reason why the Doomsday trailers would include time codes to Endgame could easily be explained by the strong connection between the two films. The next Avengers is shaping up to serve as a sequel to the last one, where Iron Man’s death, Captain America’s multiversal travels, and more could be directly responsible for Earth’s (expected) imminent destruction from an incursion.

What Those Endgame Scenes Could Mean For Avengers: Doomsday

The possibility of Doomsday directly connecting to these specific Endgame scenes is rather fascinating, as each one could be seen as a major tease of the event film’s story.

After the Avengers messed with time, Doomsday could be where we see the Ancient One’s warning to Bruce come true. The movie will certainly see millions suffer as entire universes collapse during incursions, and it could be explained that Steve’s travels are what started the multiversal collapse.

There are then two potential reasons Thor’s teaser would direct us to the Loki/Captain America flashback scene. With Steve still in another universe and potentially being responsible for everything that’s happening, the Endgame scene could double as another tease of his return to being a superhero, this time trying to save the multiverse, or at least his original or new universe.

The other possibility here is that this is more of a tease for Loki’s role. He could be the one who is “coordinating search and rescue” by assembling an Avengers team to save the multiverse. Perhaps Loki will even be posing as Steve Rogers once more to help get the job done.

Rocket asking Thor if he’s crying may seem inconsequential for Doomsday at first, but that too could be notable. It could be another way to tease the fear that he has heading into this next battle or represent the losses he’ll endure through it. Additionally, this may be the Russos’ way of hinting at Doomsday answering why Thor was crying over Deadpool in Deadpool & Wolverine.

As for Rocket talking to Ant-Man about space, that one is a bit trickier. It could be just a general tease of the cosmic/multiversal threat that will be present here or a suggestion that the Wakandans and Fantastic Four will go to space as part of the plot. Perhaps this is even a tease that some of the Guardians of the Galaxy will pop up in Doomsday after all.

The Issues With The Avenders: Doomsday Time Code Theory

On the surface, this is a compelling theory about what Doomsday‘s trailers could be hiding. It’d strengthen the connection between it and Endgame and provide some additional teases of what is about to happen without showing any more footage. However, there are some issues with the theory that are also worth highlighting.

For starters, if the Russos were going to use time codes to Endgame scenes, it is a bit weird that they chose moments that all occur at the same second mark. There are certainly other scenes that would work better as hints about Doomsday that don’t take place around 20 seconds into a minute. Mixing up the last section would’ve made it harder to decipher and allowed connections to potentially better scenes, such as Iron Man saying, “If you mess with time, it tends to mess back. You’ll see.”

Another possible issue with the theory is that the scenes each trailer teases could have been arranged better if this was the strategy. The “millions will suffer” moment would be more fitting with the X-Men trailer, while Steve’s teaser could have then used the Loki/Captain America moment, and Thor’s could’ve been the reference to him crying. Those would be more natural fits for those specific trailers.

Ultimately, only time will tell whether this theory proves to be right. If it is, then Avengers: Endgame will become even more important to setting up Avengers: Doomsday. And if not, this becomes a fun coincidence that highlights the deep connections fans can find between MCU movies.
