The Last of Us is recasting a major character ahead of its third season. Variety reports that Danny Ramirez will not return as Manny in the HBO drama based on the hit video game series due to scheduling conflicts. Manny is a former member of the Fireflies who was introduced into the series while seeking revenge on Joel (Pedro Pascal).
When HBO first announced that Ramirez would play Manny, the network described the character as “a loyal soldier whose sunny outlook belies the pain of old wounds and a fear that he will fail his friends when they need him most.” Manny is a friend of Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) and aids her in seeking revenge on Joel for his actions at the end of The Last of Us Season 1.
There’s no official word on which project is pulling Ramirez away from The Last of Us. One strong contender is Avengers: Doomsday, with Ramirez confirmed to reprise his role as the Falcon, Joaquin Torres, in the highly anticipated crossover film. Perhaps he’s been pulled back to set for reshoots, or maybe he will also reprise the Falcon in Avengers: Secret Wars.
HBO did not announce who would replace Ramirez as Manny in The Last of Us Season 3. Filming is expected to begin on the new season in March 2026.
